Terraforming
Reshape your orbit bodies — looks, names, and the tiny +1% body bonus.
Terraforming changes how an orbit looks (and its display name) and moves its +1% body bonus to the new body type. It never affects which specialty you can pick, specialty output, or zone bonuses — the big numbers stay untouched.
Warning·Unlock requirement
Terraforming is late-game planetary engineering, unlocked deep in the Habitat Engineering research line.
What you can do
- Convert any planet into any other planet type.
- Convert an asteroid belt into a planet.
- Convert a planet into an asteroid belt.
What you can't
- Black holes are immutable.
- Empty orbits remain empty.
- Tertiary slots (moons / sub-orbits) cannot be terraformed.
How it works
- You start a terraform from the orbit's detail panel — cost and duration are shown up front.
- The work runs on a timer, like any other big construction.
- Once complete, the new look is permanent — everyone sees your reshaped world.
Note·Almost cosmetic — by design
Slot equality is a core design pillar, so the body's effect is capped at a flavor-scale +1% (metal, crystal, aetherium, or habitation — food and pop growth — depending on the body type). Terraforming moves that 1% — a real but tiny decision. One exception: a built station keeps its own body bonus no matter the re-skin.
